This is a spectacular, floor-length, strapless Victor Costa Vintage Evening Gown from the 70’s-80’s. It was designed by the famed fashion designer Victor Costa and was sold by the upscale department store Neiman Marcus.
This evening gown is made of iridescent taffeta. Its color is difficult to define: imagine rich purple touching upon chocolate brown and still shimmering like a metallic… The gown is strapless and features a seashell bodice. The ruffle adorning chest area is origami pleated and so is the very rim of the full circle skirt. There’s a belt at the waist and a long zipper in the back. (Surprisingly, it also has two side pockets which don’t add volume but provide welcome storage for a lipstick, handkerchief, etc.!)
The luxurious, iridescent fabric (taffeta) is very expensive and has a fabulous “feel”; better yet, it makes a gorgeous rustling sound when you move… You feel and look like a princess! Even though I called it a Vintage Evening Gown, it really is a Vintage Ball Gown: the design is super-flattering; your upper body will seem to emerge from a flower while the lower body will retain complete freedom…. The fabric is an experience in luxury (it’s not only what it looks like but how it feels on your body and remember, you act the way you feel!) The workmanship alone is something you don’t see anymore.
This magnificent Victor Costa Vintage Evening Gown is definitely formal and perfectly suited for any GRAND occasion: a ball, wedding, prom, evening at the opera, and more. Wear it, enjoy it and SAVE IT: it’s a heirloom piece bound to increase in value!
Still, please check the measurements prior to ordering:
Bust: circumference under the bust is 30” but there are cups built-in, I’m guessing a bust of 34” B should have enough space to breathe
Care: Dry clean
Condition: Very good for a vintage evening gown: there is no damage or stains.
